BASE

Base is a surrealist dinner party film set in Williamsburg. The film is inspired by Luis Bunuel’s films of the sixties and seventies, like The Discreet Charm of Bourgousie and The Exterminating Angel. The idea is that the characters are living out this dinner party on repeat, on a loop in a sort of Vico-esque cycle. Each night they arrive, the hosts don’t remember inviting the guests. Some of the guests don’t remember each other and throughout the party they work through a part of their relationships. Like in talking therapy, repetition exercises the demons supposedly. How do you make a bad dream lose its power? By repeating what happened, by repeating it’s origins. What if the people are living in a kind of dreamworld themselves, whose dream is it? How do you find the nightmare that holds the power over its host? Are politics more important than matters of the heart? Or is love always the most important thing? Does God talk back, if you’ve devoted your life to him? And is adultery funny? Are some of the questions that Base asks.
