UNLOCKING DESIRE

By | Barbara Neri

A woman arrives at an institution claiming to be Blanche DuBois, and there she meets disparate

inmates that evoke shadow characters in Tennessee Williams’ play and people from his life. As

identities blur, secrets are unlocked and questions are answered; but all is not as it seems, and no one will ever be the same again.

Featuring professional actors from all over Texas

Barbara Neri is a published and produced writer, scholar and multidisciplinary artist. Her writing, artist pages, and scripts can be found in Performance Research, Victorian Poetry and The Drama Review, among others. As a writer she is interested in how we tell our love stories. UNLOCKING DESIRE sprang, at first, from her curiosity about Tennessee Williams’ allusion to Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s famous love sonnet in Scene 3 of his “A Streetcar Named Desire”. Neri immersed herself in Williams’ life, and work, doing research at The Historic New Orleans Collection, and on the streets of NOLA and Detroit. UNLOCKING DESIRE is a screen adaptation of a play she wrote, that premiered in Detroit in 2011. Fasten your seatbelts for a wild ride!
